What makes Netmaker different

Netmaker replaces traditional VPN and overlay network complexity with a declarative, peer-to-peer WireGuard mesh that operates at kernel level. Instead of chaining traffic through central gateways, Netmaker orchestrates direct encrypted tunnels between endpoints—reducing latency by 10-20x compared to conventional VPN solutions. The platform abstracts WireGuard’s manual configuration burden: users define desired network topology via dashboard or CLI, and Netmaker automatically distributes the correct cryptographic keys and routing rules to all connected agents.

Unlike cloud-native networking locked to a single provider, Netmaker works across AWS, Azure, GCP, on-premises hardware, and edge devices simultaneously. This makes it ideal for organizations avoiding vendor lock-in or managing hybrid multi-cloud infrastructure. The platform can be self-hosted entirely on your own infrastructure, keeping all network state and traffic orchestration under your control.

Pricing model

Netmaker operates on a usage-based subscription model. The community edition is open-source and self-hosted at no cost. The managed SaaS offering scales with the number of nodes (devices/servers) connected to your networks. While exact per-node pricing is not publicly listed on the main site, the model rewards lean deployments and scales predictably as you add endpoints—a departure from egress-based cloud pricing that penalizes multi-region architectures.
